'More police needed in Jhb CBD'

Johannesburg - Visible policing was needed as gangs of armed robbers targeted shop owners in the Johannesburg CBD, the Democratic Alliance said on Monday.
DA Gauteng spokesperson Jack Bloom said more police foot patrols were needed in the Johannesburg inner city to combat the recent spate of armed robberies.
Bloom said: "There is a particular problem in the area between Gerard Sekoto Street and Kort Street, where nearly a dozen shops have been targeted by armed gangs in the past seven months."
Last week, six men stormed Aazies Boutique in Market Street.
The six CCTV cameras in the area were no substitute for visible police foot patrols, Bloom said.
