Johannesburg - Rainy weather conditions are expected to continue in parts of the country for the next seven days, the SA Weather Service said on Thursday.

"This is due to warm, moist tropical air coming in from the north," said forecaster Dransby Dulo.

Areas that would be most affected included Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, KwaZulu-Natal, and the northern half of the Free State.

Dulo said an 80% chance of showers and thunder showers was expected on Thursday and Friday in Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga.

"This could cause possible floods in the area," he said.

A 60% chance of showers and thunder showers could be expected over the weekend in these areas.

"The rainy weather conditions should clear up in the next seven days," Dulo said.

No new flood-related incidents were reported in Johannesburg overnight, Gauteng Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe said on Thursday morning.

Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the water levels on the roads in Johannesburg had substantially subsided by Thursday morning and no new road flooding was reported.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said emergency services would be on high alert in Tshwane during the rainy weather.

"It is not currently raining in Tshwane but when it does we will be on alert," Pieterse said on Thursday morning.
