Johannesburg - Police in Tzaneen believe they have arrested the most wanted serial rapist, who has allegedly been terrorising villagers in the Bolobedu area for the past five years.

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said a 28-year-old man from Bolobedu was arrested for raping five elderly women between 2009 and 2013.

"These incidents occurred at Bochabelo, Ga-Abel and Ga-Ntata villages respectively where he was targeting elderly woman at the ploughing fields," said Ngoepe.

The victims were aged 53, 69, 69, 74 and 75 years.

His method of raping them was found to be the same except in one incident where he broke into the victim's home during the night and raped her.

The rest were targeted in the fields during the day.

The man was expected to appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate's Court soon on five charges of rape, Ngoepe said.
