Hebron - Motorists in Hebron near Pretoria battled to move around in the township on Friday as roads were barricaded with burning tyres, stones and tree branches.

Residents told motorists to turn back along Erasmus Road as protest action continued.

They were protesting about the lack of feedback from the Madibeng local municipality following their march to the council offices about two weeks ago to demand the removal of their local councillor and to have roads in the area fixed.

A resident who asked not to be named told Sapa that residents would only stop protesting on Wednesday when the local mayor gave feedback.

"The mayor promised to respond by Wednesday so we will continue until then," he said.

Earlier, resident Joseph Zebediela said they would continue their protests until government gave them what they wanted.

"We are not going to stop until we get what we want.

"This road [Molefe Makinta highway] will not be usable until then."

The group said they would only stop protesting when government gave them a date to start addressing the issues.

"Without feedback we will continue blocking the roads. We want government to give us a date to say they will start to fix [things] on a particular day," Zebediela said.
