Johanesburg - Johannesburg motorists on Sunday took to social media to express frustrations over road closures for the 94.7 Cycle Challenge.

Johannesburg metro police Inspector Edna Mamonyane said all roads had been reopened by late Sunday afternoon, with no major complaints or incidents reported.

"The last cyclists finished at around 17:25," she said.

"It is a yearly event and people know about it so they work around the road closures." However, that did not stop those frustrated by the road closures expressing their irritation on social media platform Twitter.

User @Kellynfung posted: "How to get JHB to hate you: hold a cycle race and block off all the main roads so nobody can leave their house. #947cyclechallenge".

@TP_Toes10 did not know how to get home, tweeting: "HOW THE HELL SHUD WE GET HOME? #947cyclechallenge"

@AmazinLin was doing what she could to stay calm, posting: "#947CycleChallenge tempering with my tolerance levels today...I'm counting to a trillion...after that...yah!"

@_GaryGriffin_ was rather more blunt, tweeting: "And just like that #947CycleChallenge Fucks up the whole of JHB traffic."

While there were those exasperated with the road closures, many of those who took part praised organisers for a challenging race.

@TomFalkiner111 tweeted: "Thanks @momentum947 for another awesome race. Ace conditions and some challenging new route revisions. World class event. Great atmosphere".

@jasonhubner, while getting caught in traffic on Sunday morning, tweeted: "Despite the traffic this morning(which no one could have guessed) i have to say congrats @momentum947 for an superbly organized event!!". @ZaheedP felt race organisers deserved a reward for their efforts.

"@momentum947 tough route this year. Absolutely brilliant organization. Give that Race director a Bells. #Momentum947 #CycleChallenge". First time racer @BrentLindeque was pleased to have completed the race for the first time, posting: "What an incredible experience... bucket list ticked, first #CycleChallenge complete!".
