Motorists warned of rising Soweto water

2011-12-28 18:00

Johannesburg - Motorists in Soweto should avoid Khumalo Street along Klip Valley Drive in Orlando West, due to excessive rain water, Johannesburg metro police said on Wednesday.

Motorists were advised to get past the water either by using Chris Hani Drive or by turning off Khumalo Street into Mthipa Street and then Mncube Drive before returning to Klip Valley Drive via Moroka Nancefield Road, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Barricades were expected to go up at the intersection of Klip Valley Drive and Khumalo Streets.

"The water started to rise last night but it seems to now be getting worse," Minnaar said late on Wednesday afternoon.

So every year in summer, without fail, there is a week of heavy rainfall in Joburg, yet every year it seems everyone is caught off guard. The same places flood, and the same traffic lights go on the blink, the same spruits overflow and shacks get washed away again...

Starting from the top they dont care. Do you think a man with 5 wives cares about shacks being washed away? They will be eating lunch in Sandton on our tax money.
