Mpuma cops appear for rape
Pretoria - Two police officers accused of raping a 21-year-old woman appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Mpumalanga police said.
Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Hlathi said the two, aged 32 and 34, were granted R1 000 bail each and would appear again on April 12.
The two allegedly raped and assaulted the woman on March 10.
Hlathi said one of the constables had called his girlfriend to come to his house in Matsulu. When she arrived at the house he was not there, but arrived a while later with the co-accused.
Hlathi said the couple started arguing and that was when the officer allegedly assaulted and raped his girlfriend. He then apparently instructed his friend to rape her too.
She was then taken to the Matsulu police station where she was assaulted further by other police officers.
