Johannesburg - A 36-year-old man accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl will appear in the Ermelo Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Mpumalanga police said.

Colonel Leonard Hlathi said on Wednesday that the man would face charges of abduction, sexual grooming, contravention of a court order and possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.

He said the man was accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl on March 28, at the JJ van der Merwe Primary School in Ermelo.

A search for the girl led to his arrest at Marloth Park in Komatipoort.

Hlathi said the firearm confiscated from the man had been sent for ballistics testing.

Will someone please explain to me what sexual grooming is, I doubt if I call my father at this hour he will be impressed and secondly actually know what the answer is.

It is defined more or less like this: the criminal activity of becoming friends with a child, especially over the Internet, in order to try to persuade the child to have a sexual relationship with you

This man just reminds me how careful women with children must be when they remarry. Is he marrying you because he loves you, or is he marrying you to get to your children. This guy must not be given bail.

this is another shoddy article completely void of any real information. where is the mother? what was her relationship with the man at the point of the 'abduction'? was the girl harmed in any way?

I'm wondering why they are doing ballistic tests on his firearm.

      It's an unlicenced firearm anyway

@Marion, I presume the ballistic tests are being conducted to determine whether this weapon has been used in another crime. Just being in possession of an unlisenced gun should be enough reason to lock this man away for a very long time. I know the whole gun lisencing issue is a contentious one but I believe that anyone in possession of an unlisenced weapon should be reagrded as a potential murderer. There should be very stiff penalties for being caught with an unlisenced firearm.
