Murder-accused stoned, burnt to death

2012-01-23 12:00

Polokwane - A man from Thabanaswana Village in Sekgosese was burnt to death by members of his community, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Ronel Otto said Enock Ramalobela, 50, was stoned, beaten with sticks, doused with petrol and then burnt with a tire on Sunday night.

He was accused of murdering a 14-year-old girl.

His wife was also doused with petrol, but was rescued by police officers when they arrived at the scene.

The woman and her three children - two boys and a girl - were then rushed to a safe location, Otto said.

She said residents also attacked police and threw stones at their vehicles.

Mahlatse Mendy Ramalobela's body was found in a disused house last week. She went missing on October 10 while on her way to school.

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Simon Mpembe, condemned the attack on the family and the subsequent murder, and warned members of the community against taking the law into their own hands.

“Should they [the community] have any information with regard to crimes being committed in their area, they are urged to contact the local police station, or call the complaints hotline number," he said.

"He was accused of murdered a 14-year-old girl." Editing on news24 is horrible at best o.o As for the community, what's being done? is it being investigated at all or do they just get away with a warning for killing him in a mob rage?

      Jason - 2012-01-23 13:30

      Agreed!!

  • Bryan - 2012-01-23 12:50

Just saying, I would hate to be the victim of false accusation in that community.

So in what way was the wife of the "perp" involved? Do we even know if he was the perp? Truly, democracy is wasted on Limpopo. They are the mediaeval ass end of the universe.

      VOVO247 - 2012-01-23 13:59

Oh, so you are comfortable with waiting for 3 years for the one who kills your chils to see trial? & IF convicted witness their parole a few years later?? And do you trust a court in say randburg? where its a known fact most judgements are bought / paid for & decisions made long before the case is over..

      Vermie - 2012-01-23 16:09

@Vovo are you comfortable with them also attacking the wife and children? o.o

Maybe this will scare the bastards out of their mischievous ways... Atleast it's better than postponing a court case for 3 years...

You know something is wrong in your society when people deem it OK to burn a person to death.

      Jana - 2012-01-23 15:18

No, you know something is wrong in your society when the government and the police let the murderers, rapists and robbers have free reign in your country and the innocents have to lock themselfs behind bars in their own homes hoping to be safe for one more day in our beloved country!!!!

  • Rebaone - 2012-03-05 19:49

What happened to the principle of "Innocent until proven guilty" and on top of that he was just an accused not a convicted murderer. The community that killed him are the ones who are murderers but blames others for things that they are also doing.
