Johannesburg - Police raiding a gay nightclub in Johannesburg at the weekend were surprised to find naked men inside.
"We were very surprised and the naked men equally so when we walked in there. It was actually quite funny. They were all naked, wearing only shoes and socks," an officer, who was involved in the raid, said on Sunday.
The police unit against organised crime, assisted by members of the Jeppe police station, raided the packed Animal Factory Club in Doornfontein about midnight on Saturday after receiving a tip-off that drugs were being sold on the premises.
"It seems as if they had some sort of nudist evening. Police officers found cocaine, Ecstasy tablets and marijuana to the value of about R20 000 in the club and in some of the men's socks where they were trying to hide it," Inspector Dennis Adriao, police spokesperson, said on Sunday.
Police also confiscated R30 000 worth of liquor after it came to light that the club did not have a liquor licence. The manager, 56, was arrested for this offence and four other men, aged between 33 and 50, were arrested for being in possession of drugs.
