Naked on horse for minister’s wine
Johannes de Villiers, Rapport
Cape Town – A Somerset West minister caused quite a stir when he launched his wine in an unusual manner – by having a naked woman ride a horse at the launch.
Reverend Bertus van Niekerk introduced his new wine, Revelation 6:4, on Thursday evening at a party for wine connoisseurs.
The wine with a Bible verse on the label sells for R200 a bottle.
Guests were flabbergasted by the naked woman on the horse.
“It was the strangest wine launch I’ve ever been to,” said one guest.
“A girl arrived, without a stitch of clothing and got on the horse, just like that.”
Van Niekerk is a Reformed Church minister and works at the independent Renaissance congregation.
In his free time, he makes wine.
He said church members often asked him about Revelations and the end of days and that was why he called his wine Revelation 6:4.
Van Niekerk’s wife, Selma Albasini, drew pictures of curvaceous, naked women for the labels and when it became time for the launch, Van Niekerk was so fired up by the theme that he wanted a naked woman on a horse to represent Revelations’ scarlet-wearing woman.
The nude rider was Samantha Taylor, owner of the luxury nudist resort Vasnat in the Helderberg region. The party was also held on Vasnat premises.
Van Niekerk said he wanted to revive the cinsaut cultivar, which had become less popular in recent times.
