Neighbour 'killed mom, cut baby out'
Johannesburg - A case against a woman who allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman to death and stole her baby was postponed by the Randfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Loretta Cooke would remain in custody until her bail application on Friday, said police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst.
According to Independent Online, the police discovered the body of pregnant Valencia Berens, 34, in Cooke's home in Toekomsrus, Randfontein, on January 6.
Her feet were tied together, her abdomen cut open and her baby missing. She had died from blood loss.
Police said they had received an emergency call from a neighbour that a baby had been born in a house. When police arrived they found the mother in a pool of blood.
During the investigation police found out Berens had been cut open. Her baby was removed but survived the attack.
The police investigations led to the arrest of the Cooke, who was Berens' neighbour.
