Johannesburg - Marvin Meintjies has been appointed editor of
the Sunday World from next month, Times Media said on Friday.
"Marvin is a robust and experienced journalist who will
guide the newspaper to become a significant player in the Sunday market,"
general manager of newspapers Mike Tissong said in a statement.
He was appointed after former Sunday World editor Wally
Mbhele took up an academic post late last year.
Meintjies helped with the launch of the newspaper and that
of The Times, then took up a position as deputy editor of the Sunday Times in
2009.
He also has experience with The Star, and the United Nations
humanitarian news and analysis service IRIN.
He began his journalism career at the Daily News in Durban.
Meintjies said in the statement he was excited about the new
challenge.
"Sunday World is a newspaper with enormous
potential," he said.
