Johannesburg - International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will visit The Daily Show studio in New York on Monday where she will meet Trevor Noah ahead of his debut as the new host.

"We want Mr Noah to know that the people of South Africa, and indeed the entire African continent, are proud of his achievement and that they support him fully as he takes the first steps of what we believe will be a rewarding journey," she said in a statement.

"Mr Noah is assuming an important global platform through which he will be flying the South African flag high."

Nkoana-Mashabane is currently in New York attending the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The minister said she hoped people would look at Noah's success and take interest in the abundance of talent there was in South Africa in a variety of fields.

Long-time host of the show Jon Stewart did his final show in August after a 17-year run.

Noah's first show as Stewart’s replacement will air in the US on Monday night.

According to Channel24, South Africans can catch Noah's first episode on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central (DSTV channel 122) on Tuesday 29 September at 21:00.
