No arrest in Anika case

Pretoria - No arrests have been made for the murder of a Pretoria schoolgirl who was stabbed repeatedly and had her hands chopped off, Gauteng police said on Monday.

"We did not make any arrests yet but we are busy with investigations," Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said.

"We also don't have the results from the post-mortem as yet."

The naked body of Anika Smit, 17, was found at her Theresa Park home in northern Pretoria last Wednesday.

Her father Johan Smit, 54, found the body in her bedroom with both her hands cut off and missing.

"The police told me she was stabbed six times in the neck. They are investigating the possibility that she was raped," Smit was quoted as telling the Beeld newspaper.

Smit lived alone with his daughter, who was a Grade 11 pupil at Horskool Gerrit Maritz.
