No arrests after SIU raid

Durban - No arrests were made at KwaZulu-Natal public works department offices following a raid by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), a spokesperson said on Friday.

"No arrests have been made following the raid at four public works offices. The MEC was concerned about matters in her department and asked the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate," Human Settlements MEC Maggie Govender's spokesperson Sureshinee Govender said.

She could not say how many people had been implicated in the investigation.

The offices were raided on Wednesday at eThekwini, uMkhanyakude, Mkuze depot, and Ladysmith.

Several documents were seized during the raid.

Cases have been registered with the police, but no arrests have been made.

Govender said the department had a proclamation signed by President Jacob Zuma instructing the SIU to conduct an investigation.
