Cape Town - No arrests have been made in connection with the
fatal shooting of a Cape Town pastor in front of the Blue Downs Magistrate's
court, it was reported on Monday.
Colonel Thembinkosi Kinana told the Cape Times that
witnesses to the shooting had yet to come forward.
It was also not clear whether three men had been involved,
as was initially suggested.
Pastor Albern Martins, 55, was to have appeared in court for
alleged perlemoen (abalone) racketeering on Friday morning, but was shot in the
head about a street away from the court.
"There are clues on the person who did the shooting....
These guys were in the bushes [and shot Martins] while he was crossing the road,"
regional justice department head Hishamm Mohamed told the newspaper.
According to the report, the shooting could be gang-related.
Martins and four others were arrested during an operation in
December 2004 and January 2005.
The controversial pastor, renowned for burying gangsters,
and two others had allegedly tried to exchange drugs for perlemoen.
The case continues on 28 May.
