Polokwane - Police had by Friday morning made no arrests following the shooting and wounding of two of Eskom's Medupi workers in Limpopo.

One was hit in the stomach and another slightly wounded on the ear when shots were fired at them in Marapong, near Lephalale, on Thursday morning, Colonel Ronel Otto said.

The suspect fled on foot and his identity was not known. On Friday, more police were sent to the area.

"An integrated team consisting of crime intelligence and detectives is investigating the attempted murder cases," she said.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said on Thursday it was not clear if the shooting was related to the disciplinary hearings for a group of about 2 000 workers who took part in an illegal strike in March.

It was also not known if the two injured worked for Eskom or a contractor.
