Johannesburg - There is some doubt as to whether Radovan Krejcir is in the process of selling his Bedfordview multimillion-rand home. The question arose when an estate agent who visited him in prison was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle a cellphone to him.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said Amanda Papoutis claimed she had gone to see Krejcir because she wanted him to sign a mandate as seller of his property.

"Whether this is factually correct or not, we will see," Makgale said.

While details about Papoutis are unclear, it was revealed that the 45-year-old mother of three is self-employed.

She was arrested on Sunday at the Zonderwater Prison after a cellphone was found hidden in shoes she brought for Krejcir.

The phone was discovered after it rang. Krejcir's son Denis, who is in Poland, was reportedly the caller.

While Papoutis appeared in the Cullinan Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for unlawfully supplying an offender with a cellphone, Krejcir had not been charged for the incident.

Makgale said investigations were continuing as police tried to determine who the mastermind was behind it.

Papoutis was released on R3 000 bail. Her case was postponed to December 2.

The Department of Correctional Services said last month it had foiled what it believed was an elaborate escape plan by Krejcir.

It was reported that items such as a pistol, ammunition, a knife, an item that looked like a taser, a pepper spray gun, steel blades, 10 cellphones, a memory stick and a diary containing the names of witnesses and investigators in the matters against him were found in Krejcir's cell.

A month earlier, the Johannesburg High Court found the Czech fugitive guilty of attempted murder, kidnapping and dealing in drugs.

The matter related to the kidnapping and torture of Bheki Lukhele, whose brother, Doctor, had allegedly disappeared with 25kg of tik.

Krejcir and his co-accused will be sentenced on Wednesday.

But he still faces several other charges in separate matters and could still be charged for the gun that was found in his cell.
