No date yet for local elections

2011-02-03 14:31

Cape Town - The Cabinet is waiting for the department of co-operative governance and traditional affairs to finish "consultations" before discussing a date for municipal elections, minister in the presidency Collins Chabane said on Thursday.

"It was not an issue which was discussed by the Cabinet," he told a media briefing following a Cabinet meeting in Pretoria on Wednesday.

"Once the department has finalised all of the consultations in terms of law, we should be able to announce when local government elections will take place."

Funny that this date always coincides with the plans of the ruling party and its allies, they are not yet started or pleased with the campaign hence the "department of co-operative governance and traditional affairs to finish "consultations" before discussing a date for municipal elections". was there ever a time when they were ready to give a date as promtly as expected... if its they are duty to do this surely and somewhat plan should already be in place including the sequence of events. but hey their way or no way!

department of co-operative governance and traditional affairs to finish "consultations" - sounds rather like they are consulting with sangomas to give them a "good" date for the elections to make sure the 'anc' does not loose the elections - would that not be hillarious?
