Johannesburg - Job creation and interventions to improve service delivery are expected to feature prominently in North West Premier Thandi Modise’s State of the Province address, her spokesperson said on Wednesday.

In the aftermath of Marikana, where 44 striking workers died last year, Modise would reflect on implementation of social labour plans and the problems facing the mining sector, said her spokesperson Lesiba Moses Kgwele.

Kgwele said she would also look at proposed restructuring by Anglo American Platinum, the recent spate of violence in the mining sector and the need to safe-guard jobs in the platinum mining sector.

Modise will deliver her speech at the opening of the North West provincial legislature on Friday.

Kgwele said her speech was expected to touch on the provincial development plan, the local government turnaround strategy, and clean audit 2014.

She would also speak about uprooting corruption, strengthening partnerships for moral regeneration, the fight against rape, HIV/Aids, rhino poaching, social cohesion and crime in general.
