North West mom has triplets - again

2012-04-30 09:45

Johannesburg - A North West mother who had triplets for a second time feels blessed, but is unsure if she will cope, the Sowetan newspaper reported on Monday.

"There is no rest. There is no mama. I am feeling sick this time. It's all about the babies," said Rebecca Phejane.

She thought she was expecting one child with her second pregnancy, but to her surprise her gynaecologist told her she was carrying another set of triplets.

"I did not know how to react. I knew I was struggling to support my first ones and I did not want to go through the pain and suffering again."

Her doctor Mahommad Saeed Mather said Phejane's case was one in a million.

"Naturally conceived triplets are rare, but having a second set is extremely rare."

Had it not been for Phejane's early visit to him, there could have been complications.

Phejane is looking for any help with the babies, not just financially.

"I need physical help and if someone has disposable nappies or infant formula or clothes to donate I would appreciate it," she said.

Presently unemployed, she and her now 4-year-old first triplets, the babies, and herself will live with her unemployed mother in Setlopo village, Mahikeng, North West.

They will rely on a state child grant and the father, a contract worker at Impala Platinum Mine, for support.

Babies are always a blessing, but I think her very next step should be a snip job.

      Leon - 2012-04-30 10:15

my wife is expecting too. we carefully planned this, our second one, so we could afford it however i doubt we will be able to now since we will have to pay 6 child grants and 2 adult grants. we need another tax payer to help us afford this.

      Christopher - 2012-04-30 10:27

DUMB!!! Now these kids are going to grow up and have to look after themseleves. Stupid woman!

      Rob - 2012-04-30 10:36

Come on ANC.....Start the campaign to educate the overbreeding masses who are a drain & a burden to society. The slogan is................. LESS BREEDING = MORE FEEDING !

      Peter - 2012-04-30 10:37

Babies are NOT always a blessing ... especially where she admits not being able to care for the first three!! In her case, why have more (even if just one?) where she is already NOT coping? Oh dear --- but I forget --- our dear president is setting the tone for the people.

      Shirley - 2012-04-30 11:26

This is just another weight on grants, welfare and three more kids with a bleak future. Very sad!

      Bennie - 2012-04-30 15:18

Poverty and hardship will definately be appartheids fault !!

  • nokuthandwa - 2012-04-30 09:58

contraceptives are free at government clinics. she should have never gotten pregnant if "They will rely on a state child grant and the father, a contract worker" her 3 babies were enough. Having said that, babies are a blessing........

      Leon - 2012-04-30 10:16

we are drowning here. should have snipped her with the birth of the first three.

      nokuthandwa - 2012-04-30 10:35

@Leon, a few years ago I found out that the government does not allow someone to get "the snip" unless they are over 35 years. I'm not sure how true that is but if its true then we tax payers will forever be feeding other people's children....

      Tracy - 2012-04-30 12:09

Maybe she needs more Disprins. Disprins are the best form of contraception. The woman must just put it between her knees and make sure it doesn't fall out. Simple as that!!! (Well, that is according to a gynachologist who was asked what's the most effective form of contraception). :-)

  • Bennie - 2012-04-30 09:59

    Family Planning ???

  • Mkhongelo - 2012-04-30 09:59

    She is so blessed

      Brett - 2012-04-30 10:26

Yes, blessed to have a tax-paying public...

      Rob - 2012-04-30 10:37

No ! She is stressed !

  • Richard - 2012-04-30 10:00

With 3 kids already why add more?

  • fdalana - 2012-04-30 10:05

too many blessings while we stressing.

  • tshepo.ally - 2012-04-30 10:06

you can barely cope with the three. why go for a fourth one. come on woman!

  • Peter - 2012-04-30 10:07

This is exactly what this country does not need. More kids born in to poverty. She should be thrown in jail. These kids are the ones who will suffer in the future.

      Deana - 2012-04-30 10:15

Completely agree! Contraceptives and if she doesn't want them- celibacy is an option. Don't know where she get's the time to procreate! Ironic how those who can't look after children properly always gets loads of them and others who have the means to raise them, can't conceive. Throw in a free sterilization with the nappies, formula and physical help!

      joan.hlabolwa - 2012-04-30 11:43

      Lol jail? Lmfao

  • Marion - 2012-04-30 10:13

She has no excuse for falling pregnant again when she was already suffering to support the first triplets. Free contraception is available for anyone who wants it. In pursuit of orgasm people play Russian Roulette with children's lives.

  • Chioma - 2012-04-30 10:18

are you guys suggesting she abort the babies?

      alexandra.nett - 2012-04-30 10:39

No defnitely NO TO ABORTION.....but she was already struggling so WHY FALL PREGNANT again...and this in a country where CONTRACEPTION IS FREE! She is a selfish woman....this is tantamount to child abuse!

      Marion - 2012-04-30 10:59

@alexandra - I think we must remember that the father also plays a role in this. If he had been using condoms then her chances of falling pregnant would have been lower. @Chioma - do you believe in indiscriminate procreation?

      Linda - 2012-04-30 11:07

Not abortion but adoption! If parents cannot afford to provide properly for their children then should make them available to be adopted by families that can instead of subjecting them to a life of poverty and hardship.

      JeanneB - 2012-04-30 11:40

@Chioma - no not abort - its called contraception.

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-04-30 10:27

Ben its us tax payers who are paying for this kind of crap.

  • Bryan - 2012-04-30 10:28

Keep your frikkin legs closed or get the snip....I mean WTF????

  • Cuanita Gevers - 2012-04-30 10:28

Why disposable nappies? So expensive! Use old fashioned towel nappies which you can wash and reuse surely!!

  • leigh.windvogel - 2012-04-30 10:28

Does this woman not know about family planning. you unemployed, single and still want to be having unprotected sex. *highly pissed off.......*

  • rtrecia - 2012-04-30 10:28

This is a true blessing no matter how you see it.she should not worry because God has a purpose with this children.with donations or not the children will grow.and she was just expecting one baby, poor woman.i dnt blame her at all unlike those stupid idiot who abort their innocent babies.

      Marion - 2012-04-30 11:05

@rtrecia - any baby is a blessing. What is not a blessing is the poverty all six children are going to grow up in. When you already have 3 children that you cannot afford to support as they deserve to be supported, then why fall pregnant a 2nd time? One of the main reasons some families are better off than others is because they PLAN their families. They do not just run around falling pregnant. That said, the man should have also been using condoms if for no reason other than to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. That in itself may have helped to prevent this pregnancy. What, pray, do you think God's purpose may be for another three hungry, barely clothed, poorly educated children?

      Shirley - 2012-04-30 11:33

A bleesing to whom? Three children who are going to have a hard life, hardly a chance of further education. Or maybe its to the already overwhelmed grants and welfare services. Or maybe to all the people who will have to assist this woman for the sake of innocent children???God had nothing to do with her decision to have more children after she alreday had 3!!! Its called choice and common sense-now these "blessings" are someone elses problem!!!!!!!!

      rtrecia - 2012-04-30 11:58

She felt pregnant twice why are you people making this a big deal, what about those who have more than six and very poor.

      Marion - 2012-04-30 12:21

@rtrecia - yes, she only fell pregnant twice. However, in case you never noticed, her first pregnancy resulted in three children. Most employed people cannot afford to raise three children. She is unemployed and couldn't cope with those three children yet she fell pregnant a second time. Even if she had only had one child with the second pregnancy it would have been one child too many for her in her straitened circumstances. What don't you get about that?

  • Chille - 2012-04-30 10:29

I still maintain that if you are using any form of government assistance, you should be on mandatory birth control.

      Genet - 2012-04-30 10:55

      Absolutely correct.

  • carolyn.dewrance - 2012-04-30 10:30

Time the government limited the child grants to 2 per family. This may make these people realize that more then 2 children are a no no. and especially when they are not working, and expect the rest of the nation to hand out freebies to them.

  • Ntsanwisi - 2012-04-30 10:36

where is the father of the kids?

      Barefoot - 2012-04-30 11:12

do you read what you comment on?

  • Tracey-Leigh - 2012-04-30 10:40

Babies are a blessing, and yes maybe she should have given it more thought before she fell pregnant but whats done is done so can people please stop thinking about themselves and think about others for a change. Help if you can instead of critisizing or moaning about your tax you will have to pay it anyway, people go to church on a Sunday and pretend to be christians but all they really doing is thinking about themselves!!!!

      Rob - 2012-04-30 10:43

      Oh get reaL.

      meredith.r.pollock - 2012-04-30 10:55

Are you serious???? Our taxes will help her, otherwise if you feel so strongly then you go & help her more!!!! And by the way what has Christianity got to do with her irresponsibility!! Why always try & bring religion into everything.. I agree with Rob, get real!!!!

      Cherri - 2012-04-30 11:05

Perhaps those "others" should try thinking for a change and stop expecting hand-outs from the taxpayer. Enough is enough!

      Marion - 2012-04-30 11:07

Some people take the scriptural command of 'go forth and multiply' too literally. Why should these children be helped before the children of any other impoverished family?

      Linda - 2012-04-30 11:11

WTF has being a Christian got to do with it! Delusional woman - stick to the subject if you have the intellect to follow it. If we pay - we are entitled to criticise and dont need your permission to voice our opinion. What arrogance to dictate to others how they can think and feel. If you bothered to read the comments - most people are worried about the children who will live their lives in poverty and neglect - not themselves, but clearly you dont let the facts interfere with your opinion.

      luxolo.hlosana - 2012-04-30 11:24

@Tracey, it's called self centredness/ selfishness. As for those who are calling themselves Christians, please research your hearts again and repent. The bible teaches kindness, love, long suffering, peace, faithfulness, etc. Gal 5

      Peter - 2012-04-30 12:38

@Tracy-L : You are livivng in cookoo land. You can go and help her, you wonderful sweet little thing, but I will not (besides tax). She is inconsiderate and stupid beyond belief. I pity the kids, and the country.

      Shirley - 2012-04-30 13:31

Whats done is done yes, however if this behaviour is condoned it just gives the impression that its ok-someone will take care of the children! Its not only about TAX,what about the future of these children? Do you think that they are going to have a "blessed" life? If everyone ran around willy nilly falling pregnant, not worrying about consequences, dont you think that would cause a problem??

  • Adele - 2012-04-30 10:40

Seems like common sense is not very common.

  • Prosper - 2012-04-30 10:46

Sorry young woman but judging from the comments NO ONE is happy for you this time. Actually No One is happy with you. LOL.

  • Steven - 2012-04-30 10:46

If you're struggling to support the first lot, GET STERILISED FFS.

  • masikwa - 2012-04-30 11:00

She so blessed but she now has to start using family planning...i have a 3month old & already baby staff are expensive...i guess her mother in-law is very proud her as our african culture believe that a woman is a woman by her food of the womb.

      Marion - 2012-04-30 12:23

@masikwa - unfortunately African culture in regard to 'the food of her womb' has resulted in millions of African children who never have food for their tummies. She should have started using family planning after the first triplets.

      Shirley - 2012-04-30 13:33

Yeah right-now can she put food on the table? This just creates more poverty!

      Clayton Richard Delport - 2012-05-01 09:51

Go tell that to all the abondoned kids and all the street children or all the thieves and criminals who complain of poverty

  • Cherri - 2012-04-30 11:02

"I did not know how to react. I knew I was struggling to support my first ones and I did not want to go through the pain and suffering again." Really? Ever thought of trying contraceptives??

  • Will - 2012-04-30 11:07

STOP making babies! STOP relying on social grants! Instead do something productive for a change.

      Rob - 2012-04-30 11:42

LOL...Making babies is considered productive in some cultures.

      Barefoot - 2012-04-30 11:55

      lol @Rob she's very productive

  • luxolo.hlosana - 2012-04-30 11:14

Instead of posting derogatory comments, we are suppose to give a lending hand. To these guys who are always posting racists comments, please refrain from doing so (Rob "Come on ANC.....Start the campaign to educate the overbreeding masses who are a drain & a burden to society.) Only animals breed, not humans. Please don't look us down to the level of animals. We blacks/ "masses" are also human as you white people. Please stop spreading hate against us.

      Cherri - 2012-04-30 11:31

We are giving a "lending" hand.....with our taxes that go to pay child support grants to irresponsible people who are too lazy to use free contraceptives.

      Rob - 2012-04-30 11:47

Oh please ! Dont try & turn this around. It should be a government campaign to educate ( in the year 2012 nogal ) the masses who obviously are responsible for much of their own poverty due to overbreeding, along with multi spouse dysfunctional families that are the product of a culture that selfishly refuses to come out of a bygone age. In todays economically driven world, there is no reason for this type of behaviour. This overbreeding IS a form of child abuse in its own right !

      luxolo.hlosana - 2012-04-30 11:49

That's a family matter. I'm sure there's no one who interferes on your family. This woman wanted one child according to the agreement with her family and husband. She didn't plan for 3more kids. I'm not saying family planning is not important, but common sense from the report tells me that she planned for this child. She visited the doc on time, something that tells us that it was not a mistake as some had highlighted.

      Peter - 2012-04-30 12:45

@Luxolo - any racist comment is stupid. Facts: the woman is already poor and has 3 kids which she struggles to feed. Now she has 3 more ??? How can ANY person be so stupid - who the hell does she think she is ??? The male is just as guilty, and in my opinion, this is planned child neglect.

      Shirley - 2012-04-30 13:34

This has nothing to do with race-ONLY COMMON SENSE!

      Clayton Richard Delport - 2012-05-01 09:49

      Are you human beings??

  • Peter Edwards - 2012-04-30 11:14

Oh dear! Oh dear, if you can't feed em, don't breed em. In anyone's world 3 had to be enough...??

  • Sabelo - 2012-04-30 11:20

I don't know why people comment if they don't have anything effective to say. This woman probably doesn't know better. And I'm sure she doesn't even have the resources or education concerning preventive methods in terms of avoiding pregnancies and protection with married couples in most communities is very rare due to culture and myths. If she wants to have kids let her be, she'll have to take responsibility for her actions. These silly negative comments are not needed here!

      Cherri - 2012-04-30 11:34

I don't buy any of the excuses you're trying to make for her. After she gave birth to the first 3 they would have educated her about contraception. The reason people get pissed off with this type of thing is that the culprits DON'T take responsibility for the actions. The tax-paying public is left to deal with the aftermath of their few minutes of pleasure.

      Sabelo - 2012-04-30 11:46

That is true indeed but at the same time we all know public service sector is very bad. And I am sure they most likely didn't educate her concerning her situation. A person who knows better most likely would have tied their tubes, practiced safe sex or used contraceptives. And I mean she's unemployed and her husband works in a mine. I'm sure they don't have much means of income. This leads to very little awareness on the basic things we deemed society to know. Every situation is different. At the same time I'm sure by the time she was aware she's having triplets again it was most likely too late to terminate the pregnancy...

      Rob - 2012-04-30 11:56

Rubbish Sabelo ! Why want even one more baby after you already have three !!!! Crazy !

      LeKoke - 2012-04-30 11:57

SeaB - everyone who delivers a baby even moreso babies - is well informed after delivering about the options of contraceptive they have to avoid unwanted pregnancies! The fact that she is even able to visit a gynae( assuming its not a state gynae where she did not pay) proves that she is well informed! This reckless woman (rural or not) are plain crazy is not even being uneducated - one knows if they can afford or can't! Issues like this just piss me off! Let her be - she will probably go have another set of triplets after this.

      Sabelo - 2012-04-30 12:03

At the end of the day she's have these kids so complaining about it really serves no purpose.

      Clayton Richard Delport - 2012-05-01 09:48

Bloody moron, it is our problem just like the how many homeless ppl more blacks for your revolution.... Make babies no matter what then blame the white man about poverty

  • lindaawhelan - 2012-04-30 11:47

I think we need to give her a break. It's not her fault she had triplets and as those children are now four, I think she must have been using contraception which failed, resulting in the second pregnancy. It does happen.

  • dominic.manyage - 2012-04-30 11:48

I would hope that after this she gets her tubes tied! Good grief, will people never learn? Already over-burdened and in dire poverty you carry on breeding! Only ones who suffer are the innocent children who come into this world to be a burden on society thanks to their irresponsible parents! Cry the beloved children ....
