Johannesburg - The community of Khuma township, near Stilfontein, was warned by North West police on Tuesday that nine gangs were operating in the area.

"Nine gang groups have been identified and are currently being investigated," said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

"The gangs are Altito, Izinyoha, SVK, Money Lovers, Dibotho, HL [Hard Living], Bashotho [Marashia], Born to Kill, Love to Love, Crazy Dogs, and L7."

Eighty-three people had been arrested in Khuma since 2010 for gang-related crimes, including murder, attempted murder, assault, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Parents should protect their children against gangs as school pupils from age 14 were being recruited by them, Ngubane said.

"These school children are lured into committing criminal activities during school holidays and in their spare time," he said.
