Bloemfontein - Senior Northern Cape ANC official Yolanda Botha will start testifying in her defence in her fraud and corruption trial in the Northern Cape High Court on Tuesday.

Botha, Trifecta director Christo Scholtz, and African National Congress leaders John Block and Alvin Botes face charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering related to government building leases.

The National Prosecuting Authority alleges the Trifecta group of companies entered into a number of lease agreements with Northern Cape government departments in which rentals, or rental space, were grossly inflated.

All the accused have pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them or their companies.

Last week Northern Cape High Court Judge Mathebe Phatshoane heard evidence in defence of Scholtz.

During the trial the accused failed in an acquittal application and an application for the presiding judge to recuse herself.
