Nurse accused of rape back in court

2012-03-06 14:39
Bloemfontein - The case against a Free State male nurse who allegedly raped a terminally ill cancer patient in a Bloemfontein hospital last year has been postponed to next month.

The 33-year-old nurse appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for a trial date to be set in the high court. No date could be finalised and the matter was postponed to April 24 in the magistrate's court.

The nurse was arrested after a 50-year-old cancer patient alleged she was raped during a night shift at the National Hospital.

The woman's husband told police the attack happened on October 15 last year. The patient, who has since died, could not identify the female accomplice who allegedly helped the man. According to the patient, a woman nurse held her down while the male nurse raped her.

At the previous hearing, the court heard the investigation into the incident had been completed, and that the results of forensic tests had been received.

The man is out on bail.
