Nurse loses baby after cop attack

2012-09-07 09:10

Johannesburg - A student nurse lost her unborn baby because she was allegedly assaulted by a police constable, the Star newspaper reported on Friday.

This came after Lucia Mualusi's husband, Rudzani, failed to pay R2 500 for a bakkie he had leased from the policeman.

The woman was allegedly choked, slapped and punched by the officer, who also knelt on her abdomen, the newspaper reported.
The couple were in bed on Saturday when they heard a knock on their door.

They were confronted by the officer and seven other men, four of whom were in police uniform. The group broke down the burglar gate.

"The constable stepped backwards and pointed a firearm at me," Rudzani Mualusi told the newspaper.

"He told me he wasn't here to play. I went back to the bedroom to fetch his car keys."

He escaped through a back window.

Mualusi said the constable was arrested on Monday at Olivenhoutbosch, and was granted R1 000 bail. He is due to reappear on September 28.

  • djmarcosa - 2012-09-07 09:19

this is such BS!!!!.. the criminals live a free life and honest people have to live in jails.. doesn't this count as murder or something like that for killing the baby.. i mean how sick can someone be just for money.. what has mankind become so greedy and evil.. my word.. !!!

  • aphiwe.mayola - 2012-09-07 09:19

What a man, so he escapes through the back window leaving his gf/wife @ the mercy of these clearly aggressive people who were 'not there to play'. The actions of the police were illegal maybe he could have called the cops (as crazy as that sounds) but guess he didn't know better - assuming he didn't call for help. Condolences to the lady though.

  • lebogang.molefo - 2012-09-07 09:21

Shouldn't he be charged with murder and assault?

      deon.louw.7505 - 2012-09-07 09:29

It depends how far she was, most courts only makes it murder if the child was viable (+- 32 weeks).

      gieljam.gomtor - 2012-09-07 09:55

Sure plus all that accompanied him .

  • lerato.motshana - 2012-09-07 09:27

This is sad, if our police in uniform dont respect the it then i have nothing more to say, speechless and i'm never speechless and @rock.jason.52, he knelt on her abdomen, thats how.

  • gieljam.gomtor - 2012-09-07 09:27

We should take note of these thugs parading as officers especially in the ranks of the very people who are paid to protect the public.I think one of the reasons by taking these mafia style tactics is that they know how weak our law enforcement and judiciary is.By coming as a gang only shows how deeply rooted the problem lies.

  • desertratbkf - 2012-09-07 09:32

The husband escaped through the back window, when he was suppose to protect you knowing that you were pregnant, lady i would think twice about this so called husband.

      Anthea - 2012-09-07 09:58

I imagine he didn't think they were such scum as to assault a pregnant woman. I guess he was wrong about that. That should be a murder charge.

      lskosana3 - 2012-09-07 12:07

I thought the article refers to the thug, if it was her husband then she needs to think twice about the marriage

  • drishworth - 2012-09-07 09:38

I hope that the charge the policeman is facing is one of murder and not just assault- he's a disgusting specimen of a human being.........

      desertratbkf - 2012-09-07 10:10

Correction - this is NO human! Not even and animal!

  • dnxumalo2 - 2012-09-07 09:43

And we are expected to applaud the South African police culture at all times. This is happening because we have given one political party too much time to rule us.If you do a background check of these people who commit most crimes they are,in one way or another, friends with people in high places in this government and they are made to believe that they can get away with anything whatsoever.Sadly, we voted for peace and stability yet we are breeding more murderers at all levels of government. From the smallest office to parliament where people abuse blue lights.Better life.

      J.A.Rademan - 2012-09-07 11:58

Please God let there be more of Dnxumalo2's out there. We surely need them!!!!

  • marysia.vieira - 2012-09-07 13:22

Why bail? Police = abuse of power = no value of life, simply own interests. Such Godless action???????

  • John - 2012-09-07 18:25

Where is the COMMON PURPOSE law in this case? Have his bully boy buddies been charged with the crime of OMISSION for failing to do their DUTY to SERVE and PROTECT this woman from abuse? Not bloody likely OUR thug SAPS operate behind the thin BLUE line. They protect their criminal buddies before they protect US. God protect us from the PROTECTORS!

  • sedeshan - 2012-09-08 16:34

Some of these cops are just thugs with the law on their side. I hope he gets what he deserves.
