Officials in court for corruption

Cape Town - Four home affairs officials appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to face charges of corruption.

Prosecutor Zaiboo Khan said the matter would be moved to a regional court when the four appear on January 5 in Bishop Lavis outside Cape Town.

The location of the regional court would be decided at that time.

The home affairs officials are Mkululi Tenqani of Table View, Vusumzi Mavuya of Guguletu, Nkululeku Mfamekiso of Nyanga and Sivilde Nxadi of Athlone.

Tenqani, Mavuya and Mfamekiso were arrested on September 15. Nxadi was arrested a month later.

No details of their alleged corruption was provided other than an accusation that they received a benefit to which they were not entitled.

The four are currently out on bail. Tenqani, Mavuya and Mfamekiso had paid R700 each, while Nxadi's bail had been fixed at R1 000.
