Pretoria - There is a severe shortage of staff at the Nokeng Tsa Taemane local municipality's electrical depot in Tshwane, with only 23 out 110 vacant posts filled.

This was revealed during an in-loco visit to the depot by members of the city's council earlier this year.

In an oversight report to the city's council seen on Thursday, it was revealed that of the 110 posts, only 17 were for artisans and one for a plumber.

Those working at the depot did not have access to internet or telephone connections, which resulted in them having to use their own personal cellphones for work purposes.

There was also a lack of vehicles, tools, equipment and stock materials, making it difficult for employees to do their work, the report said.

The region's executive director would be called to the oversight committee's next meeting to address the challenges at the depot.
