Cape Town - Two men were granted bail after being accused of raping the daughter of a Grabouw councillor, it was reported on Wednesday.

The Cape Times reported that the men, both 24, appeared in the Grabouw Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where they were granted R500 bail each.

Their case was postponed until 29 April.

The woman, 22, whom they allegedly gang-raped, said she considered them to be good friends and were trusted by her family.

"I am shocked they did this to me because they were friends... I feel ashamed and dirty."

Her father decided to go public with the rape, which happened on Saturday, and criticised the granting of bail.

"The bail means there is something seriously wrong with the justice system. I don't know if it's just here in Grabouw or everywhere, but we are not happy about that," he told the newspaper.

Reported sexual crimes in the Western Cape town have increased steadily in the past five years, from 39 cases to 65 last year.

Three weeks ago, 17-year-old Anene Booysen was gang-raped, murdered and mutilated in Bredasdorp.
