Over 700 get RDP houses in Hammanskraal

2012-03-10 22:49
Johannesburg - Over seven hundred residents of Kanana in Hammanskraal were given the title deeds to their RDP houses on Saturday, the MEC of local government and housing in Gauteng said.

"Today we will be handing over 736 title deeds as proof of ownership of your homes," said MEC Humphrey Mmemezi who presided over the handing over the ceremony.

"Those who are going to receive their title deeds today, your turn has come. And those of you who are still waiting for houses, your turn too, is coming," he said.

Mmemezi said that 1 050 homes had been completed in Hammanskraal extension one and that building in extension two would begin before the end of April.

More residents would be given their deeds once the department had resolved disputed occupations where family members were fighting for the rightful ownership of houses.

Mmemezi pleaded with residents to refrain from selling or renting out their RDP houses and going back to shacks because it negatively affected the housing backlog.
