Durban - The Oyster Box Hotel’s friendly feline, Skabenga the cat, has reportedly gone missing.

The hotel’s publicist Joanne Hayes told Get It Ballito Umhlanga that the famous cat has not been seen since Sunday and staff became worried when the cat did not show up for breakfast.

The hotel has asked the public to step in and help search for the Skabenga, famous for his posh high tea parties.

They’ve even put out an appeal on their Facebook page, saying in a post: “Please keep a look out for him - we are missing him terribly and most concerned.”

The post has had almost 300 shares and members of the public advising hotel staff to check cupboards, rooms, storage facilities and garden sheds.

One woman even reported a sighting.

“My mom in law is resident at the oysters [sic] and she saw him outside after the boom gate just before you enter the hotel and he was eating grass and strolling further out,” wrote Euline Adams on Monday evening.

Another woman, Barbara Klusener Smillie, also spotted the furry feline: “I called reception earlier [on Monday] to check the office area, as I was waiting for a friend at about 5pm when I saw him slip behind someone into the office area. When we left at about 6.30 we looked for him but no luck!”

Hayes told Get It that staff had conducted an extensive search for Skabenga but they had found nothing.

The hotel is asking members of the public with information about Skabenga’s whereabouts to phone the hotel on 031 514 5000.
