PIETERMARITZBURG-BORN Minnesh Ramdhany is set to have his face splashed on billboards, magazines and newspapers in France when he becomes the face of one of the world’s top cooldrink brands.

Ramdhany was recently announced as the face of the cooldrink in France, after a long and successful modelling career in South Africa.

“I started modelling while living in Pietermaritzburg. I was at a nightclub when a friend told me I should start modelling. I believed I did not have what it took, but decided to approach an agency in Pietermaritzburg,” he said.

His modelling career took off, and he appeared in various magazines and even The Witness newspaper as a model for clothing retailers.

Graduating from Heather Secondary in Northdale, he said that his upbringing was in a humble household consisting of his mother, father, brother and sister.

“My brother, sister and I always wanted to remain humble in everything we did, but I felt the city was getting small for me, so I ventured out to other parts of the country and the world,” he said.

An avid traveller, Ramdhany has fulfilled almost every adrenaline junkie’s bucket list, from swimming in the Amazon with piranhas, sky-diving, riding Harleys in Sydney and even meditating with Buddhist monks in Thailand.

Ramdhany said he regularly updated his LinkedIn profile and was recently approached by a French modelling agency.

“It came as a surprise to me and but the client loved my portfolio and how I could be associated with their brand,” he said.

Ramdhany’s face will appear at an airport in Paris, as well as in other media across the country.

But with the brawn comes the brain to match. Ramdhany, currently based in Johannesburg, is recognised as a corporate guru handling VIP client affairs for a leading telecommunications company — meaning that part of his job is to mingle with celebrities.

“I think being well-groomed landed me my current position. To approach high-profile clients, one needs to be well groomed and looking the best to be confident,” he said.

Ramdhany’s parents still live in Pietermaritzburg and he regularly visits the city.

Asked for style tips, he said nothing will help a man conquer the world like a “well-tailored suit, a decently priced crisp white shirt and shoes that are always clean”.

“A handkerchief is a must; keep your hair classically styled; and if you want to go for a beard, make sure it’s well groomed.”

And if exploring the world, having his face up in lights and mingling with the likes of Robert de Niro, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron and the late Nelson Mandela isn’t enough, the eligible bachelor (looking to settle down) is also a poet.

His life’s work is summed up in one quote: “I respond to every call that excites my spirit.”
