Pretoria - A beauty pageant runner-up has told how she dived through her bedroom window to get away from a robber.

Beeld reported that Elzien-Lolette van der Merwe, 51, the first princess in the Mrs Africa beauty pageant, was held up by an armed man who overpowered her in her home in Centurion early on Sunday morning.

Van der Merwe, a health consultant and businesswoman, told how she was attacked by an armed man at around 04:00.

“He stormed at me, stepped hard on my foot, grabbed me by the throat and slapped me through the face,” she said, crying.

“He also kept threatening to rape me and kill me.”

When she was with the robber in her bedroom, she asked to put on her jacket and managed to get away from him, diving head first through the bedroom window to get outside and find help.

The robber fled with three computers, R500, a cellphone, jewellery, a Bio Feedback machine.
