Johannesburg - A man and a youth have appeared in court in connection with the kidnap and murder of a 5-year-old boy who went missing in Sandfontein, North West police said on Saturday.

"Two accused, Bornfast Sihlangu, 31, and a 17-year-old minor appeared in Brits Magistrates Court on Friday," Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

The child's decomposed body was found earlier on Friday.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed that the body was found with both feet and hands tied with a string and private parts missing."

The pair were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday following the boy's disappearance on Tuesday from Wawiel Informal Settlement in Sandfontein, near Brits, Mokgwabone said.

"They were remanded in custody until Monday, 12 and 16 January, for pre-trial assessment report and bail application respectively."
