Panayiotou likely to go to Supreme Court for new bail bid

2015-07-28 13:01

Defence for Christopher Panayiotou, who stands accused for the murder of his wife Jayde, will likely approach the Supreme Court of Appeal after another of Panayiotou's bail applications was denied on Tuesday.WATCH

Port Elizabeth - Christopher Panayiotou, accused of orchestrating his wife Jayde's murder, is expected to make a brief appearance in court on Thursday, a day after it emerged that his alleged accomplice had turned State witness.

Panayiotou, 28, and his co-accused Sizwezakhe Vumazonke, 30, believed to be the hit man, will make a mandatory appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court.

The case is expected to once again be postponed to allow the State time to conclude its investigation.

The matter has to be transferred to the High Court, where the trial is expected to take place sometime next year.

The third accused, Luthando Siyoli, the alleged middle man in the murder of Jayde Panayiotou, has had the charges against him dropped and will turn State witness.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed on Wednesday night that Siyoli, 31, would be working with the State.

"I can confirm that, as the NPA, it is a fact that Siyoli is one of [the Section] 204 witnesses at the moment and we will be proceeding that way," said spokesperson Tsepo Ndwalaza.

Jayde was kidnapped on Tuesday, April 21, while waiting outside her complex in Kabega Park for her lift to Riebeek College Girls' High School in Uitenhage, where she taught. Her body was found near KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, the next day.
