Patient 'wouldn't have lied' about rape

Bloemfontein - A man whose terminally ill wife claimed she
had been raped said on Wednesday he was disappointed that the male nurse accused
of the crime was acquitted.
Dirk Lombard, who was not in court on Wednesday due to work
commitments, said he was glad his wife was not alive to see the accused walk
free, reported Volksblad.
Magda Lombard, 51, died from cancer a month after reporting
the rape.
Her husband said she would not have lied about the rape.
But the Free State High Court found there was not enough
evidence to convict Michael Moema, 33.
"Wherever she is now, she is at peace. Whoever raped
her will not get past the Lord. In the next life he will be punished,” said
Lombard.
Meanwhile, Moema said he was relieved after his acquittal.
As the verdict was read out, hospital staff cheered and
whistled while an emotional Moema covered his face as he walked out.
Outside the court room he said the charges against him were
all lies. He said he was glad the truth had come out.
