When will people learn that freeways are NOT places to walk. People and fast-moving vehicles do not mix. Stupid! Don't walk on freeways and you won't get killed by a fast-moving vehicle.

Syd I bet if you were impoverished, uneducated and lived in a shack along the freeway - you too would try to cross the road to get home instead of walking kilometres to find a safe route across... The system is failing the people - get down from those ivory towers mate.

Syd, valid points but I must agree with Jan. Actually the lack of a system has failed us.

The term is self-explanatory, when are we going to learn.freeways are meant for cars(speeding) not pedestrians.RIP

RIP.. I saw that accident around about 5pm. It hurt, sometimes we take our lives. I think they should be a law which fine those pedestrian who do not obey the rules. People should know that they cannot compete with cars, the cars speed on the freeway.

It is sad - unfortunately the system is failing the people. We need better education for people living along freeways or who try to cross to the other for work or to get home.

Jan, you are talking cr@p. There is a pedestrian bridge at OR Tambo. The f ers will run across the freeway because they are to f ing LAZY to walk an extra 200 meters to use the bridge.

      Koos - 2012-07-01 09:06

Uhum there are laws Nala but then as usual there will be 20 excuses and 10 times shifting of blame and then the driver will be held responsible because the “victim’s” family want money. You can build a wall and they will climb it or break it with a safe walkway no further the 50 meters (this I can show you). In the end it is a choice. Too bad they put drivers and their families lives in danger.

Durban Metro police do nothing about this problem!!!

Koos, you've nailed it perfectly. I've seen people run across right under the pedestrian bridges because they are too lazy to climb the steps.

As far as I am aware, there is a law against jaywalking. in the old days people were prosecuted for walking on freeways let alone cross them.those were the days when the poor was not seen near urban developments. times have changed. Not sure if the law should though.

Freeway is not the same as an ordinary road but it is meant for speeding, pedestrian should be aware. Road signs are there to instruct us.

Read Jan's comments above. We all know what a freeway is for but then again, what does the poor man do without transport, no employment, no support from govt. except to take short cuts to survive.
