Pedestrian killed on N12

2012-09-06 11:23
Johannesburg - A pedestrian was killed when she was hit by a car on the N12 near the Lenasia off ramp on Thursday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the accident happened around 06:00 and the woman was declared dead on the scene.

Minnaar said there was a lot of rainwater on roads in Gauteng on Thursday following rain and hail in some areas.

"The M1 north and south near the double-decker section has been flooded. This is just before Braamfontein."

Minnaar said a telephone pole was struck by lightning on Cypress Avenue in Bryanston and set on fire.

"Motorists must adjust their driving to the weather conditions by reducing speed, keeping their headlights on and maintaining a safe following distance as the rain causes the road surface to become slippery.

"The weather also causes poor visibility. Therefore motorists should be extra cautious," Minnaar said.
