Perlemoen seized in Caledon
Johannesburg - Perlemoen worth more than R600 000 was confiscated in Caledon, in the Western Cape, on Tuesday, police said.
Captain FC Van Wyk said it was found after police chased a car that refused to stop on the N2 highway just before 07:00.
The driver tried to force the police car off the road and the vehicle was damaged.
The occupants of the car abandoned the vehicle car R43 Karwyderskraal Road and disappeared into the bushes.
Police found 36 black bags of perlemoen in the boot and on the backseat.
Van Wyk said 3 514 shelled perlemoen were recovered.
