Perlemoen worth R5m confiscated on N2

Cape Town - A man was arrested and perlemoen (abalone) worth about R5m confiscated in Cape Town on Tuesday, Western Cape police said.

A police patrol pulled over an Isuzu bakkie which was being driven recklessly on the N2, Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

Officers found 6 562 pieces of abalone in 44 bags under a blanket.

The 55-year-old driver was expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court soon.

    I think they should hand this guy over to the farmer that took care of the 2 copper cable thieves...... The money they save on this fools court case and jail time could be used better in the prevention of abalone poaching.
