Pig's head at mosque site condemned

2012-07-27 12:12

Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance is appalled by the placing of a pig's head on a property earmarked for the construction of a mosque in Malvern, KwaZulu-Natal, the party said on Friday.

"The DA strongly condemns the defilement of the sanctity of any place of worship, in any manner," said spokesperson Sizwe Mchunu.

He said the head and several pictures of pigs were found on the property on Thursday.

"This smacks of religious intolerance and undermines our Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion."

Pigs are regarded as "haraam" in Islam. This means the consumption of pork and the use of products from the animal are forbidden to followers.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but no one really cares what kids on the internet think. You're a nuisance we have to tolerate, but the last thing we need is your explanations about where your god came from.

      imraan.chothia.7 - 2012-07-28 20:03

Zaatheist, please tell me who created you? I ask this question with respect and to understand your thinking

  • Jaco - 2012-07-27 12:23

The problem is that it shows people in South Africa are becoming less tollerant and accepting of each other. There is a serious leck of respect in this country. It'ss a culture breeded by the ANC/goverment!! Segregation/Apartheid is alive and well in this country.....its just under new management.

      Tony Lapson - 2012-07-27 12:45

I know plenty of tolerant, caring South Africans from all backgrounds. This pig head incident could've been done by a single person. The sad thing is that this could upset a whole community of Muslims, and the younger males (it's always young, unwise males from every culture that get emotional and vindictive) might decide to retaliate in some way.

      John - 2012-07-27 14:06

@Tony. Do you see Christians becoming violent because of a pigs head, a pissed on cross, or the recent hot-cross bun saga? The fact that you are concerened about violent Muslim retaliation should tell you all you need to know about the religion of Islam. Pretty soon you'll not be eating with your left hand otherwise somebody might just be offended and bust your knee caps.

      Tony Lapson - 2012-07-27 14:36

Aisha, that is exactly the sentiment that Breivik had when he killed teenagers with a smile.

      ebrahim.floris.7 - 2012-07-27 15:12

@Aisha,does it now.and your proof is?

      John - 2012-07-27 16:41

@ebrahim. Quran (8:39) - "And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion should be only for Allah" Quran (9:123) - "O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness." And many more. But wait, let's hear again how it was taken out of context, and that you won't provide the context. You tell me ebrahim. Does Islam require that apostates be killed or not? Ofcourse it does. That sounds like violence unbefitting the act, don't you think? Here is a nice video for you to watch. Its a Muslim who converted to Christianity (from Tunisia), who had his throat slit for doing so. Nice religion this Islam. (Link in the first paragraph) http://www.raymondibrahim.com/11798/graphic-video-tunisian-muslims-slaughter-convert

  • musamuskid - 2012-07-27 12:37

This is very dangerous. We dont need any form of incitement of violence, esp in this country we experience enough violence daily...

  • Hitro Dive - 2012-07-27 12:52

@news24 all your news updates are about the negative Tht happens in S.A. There's so much positive happening overall I mean who ever y'all may be y'all are so blunt minded and biased at all costs. U make it look like South Africa is a bad country after all many countries around the world have their negatives and positives. So unprofessional and stupid.

      emile.marais - 2012-07-27 13:57

You actually have to ask that question? It's a zoo of madness out there... But to be fair, it's not just South Africa, it's the whole world that's crazy.

  • zaatheist - 2012-07-27 13:11

"This smacks of religious intolerance and undermines our Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion." Agreed, everyone has the right to believe what they wish without hindrance provided they exercise their beliefs without imposing upon others who do not share those beliefs. I condemn this nonsense and am willing to bet that the perpetrators belong to one or other of competing religious cults.

      mike.bevis.7 - 2012-07-28 10:26

Islam is not a religion its political and only has sharia law that it lives by.

      imraan.chothia.7 - 2012-07-28 20:08

Mike Islam is a way of life. Do you know that Shariah also explains how to do business with ppl, ppl of all faiths. How to respect ppl, parents, children. Islam is a beautiful religion, and you dont have to be muslim to learn n follow the values islam teaches its followers.

  • tshekiso.saul - 2012-07-27 13:15

This is very funny indeed, and in Africa nogal. It was the easter cross now the pig head that is under scrutiny for religious complaints. When r we prayting then if we keep complaining.

  • mnmwale - 2012-07-27 14:20

There is no scientific proof that pork is dirt. We are in the 21st where science must guide us and not superstitious beliefs.

      paco.rodriguez.9210 - 2012-07-27 14:29

the pig is probably the filthiest creature on earth that eats anything and everything so stop justifying your stupidity for still eating this crap...yuck

      bones.mine - 2012-07-27 14:43

Hey Paco! It is superbly delicious on the braai too.

      John - 2012-07-27 14:43

@paco. Not so. 'Farmed pigs are fed a diet of mostly grains. They cannot eat just anything, their diet and nutrition has to be carefully balanced so they grow healthy'.

  • eric.martinsich - 2012-07-27 15:59

Who cares about the pigs heads etc. Pick it up and dump them. One thing must never be lost out of site. 1% of our population belongs to the Moslem faith. Yet virtually every commodity must have an Halaal sticker. On top of that the companies must pay the various moslem Judiciaries monye to have the stickers on their commodities. With the money earned they put up more mosques. So lets get real we are being dominated by a tiny minority.

      imraan.chothia.7 - 2012-07-28 20:14

Eric companies that put the halaal logo on their products do so by choice, many opt not to. That doesent mean we dont consume their products. Do you understand what 'halaal' means? Eg. When an animal is slaughtered the name of God must be taken, coz only God brings life n take life. And fyi i dont know a single mosque built with funds from Sanha, the jnb based Halaal certifiers. Yes we are a minority, and companys do this for us as it makes business sense to them. Thank you

  • ernest.gouws - 2012-07-27 16:32

I think that South Africans have so far been spared from religious intolerance. We have enough on our plate to worry about, these acts should really go away.

  • michael.barns.1 - 2012-07-27 17:27

I'm still not getting this whole pig issue, both Jews & Muslims hate pigs, what on earth is wrong with a pig? I think pigs are quite nice, they make good guard dogs, have awesome eyes, and are generally well behaved. I think it goes against your religion that you love & care for every living creature but then hate pigs?! Can a Muslim or a Jew please tell me why you hate these animals? Even if its a passage from the Koran or Tora.

      imraan.chothia.7 - 2012-07-28 19:57

Hi, muslims dont hate pigs. Its a creation of God. We are forbiden from using its products etc Hope that clarifys your question

  • glenda.mackay.18 - 2012-07-27 18:54

This action is total unacceptable! Before you a person is entitled to freedom, they must give others freedom first! I am a Christian but I have the most wonderful friends in Muslims.

  • ndumiso.mavuso.5 - 2012-07-27 18:59

@ News 24 readers! It is so amazing how hearsay shapes our perceptions of other people, religions and races! People have drawn conclusions about things they've never experienced based on somebody else's story and narratives, people whose motives and ambitions you don't. Has anybody amongst those who believe Muslims are such murderers had a relative or loved one killed by a muslim? Have they ever bombed your house? I think not so! I challenge you to challenge your perceptions based on your own personal life experiences rather that somebody's rubbish whose motives you don't know. Don't allow people to live their hatred and achieve their evil ends through you, you will miss a lot of good things and friendships just bcos they have been wrapped in something that you have been programmed to hate and detest for no reason at all! The media and political businesses thrive on discord! They will sow it as long there is ground to sow into. Don't allow yourself to be the bedding ground for their hateful and selfish endevours. Live yo life based on yo own experiences and draw yo own conclusions about things.

      michael.barns.1 - 2012-07-27 19:08

you ever lived in Afghanistan or Iraq? No because I didnt see you there! Why not come tell the mothers whose children or husbands were killed what you've just said, then tell the American and British and Canadian etc etc etc families who's young sons were killed what you just said. Don't come to a forum and speak a load of rubbish when you are so damn ignorant. P.S Did you ever hear of September 11? Or the london bombings? You are a fool, take off your blinkers and go experience the real world nDumiso!

      ndumiso.mavuso.5 - 2012-07-27 19:32

@ Michael. Have I ever lived in Afghan or Iraq? No! Am I American or Canadian? No! Am I a relative of those killed? No! Who sent those sons to afghan? Did I? No. Did the Afghanis or Iraqis go and pick them up from their houses? No! Why should I take sides? Both sides have lost lives, and do I know the reasons? No I don't! As stated before, I will draw conclusions about life on my experiences and not from CNN! If you have been to Afghanistan, you draw your conclusions from that! I did not ask you to see your life through my eyes and I ask that you don't expect me to live my life based on yo experiences! September 11 or London bombings? Lets not even go there! Bcos the very Americans and the British whose children were lost in those bombings question the authenticity of the reports. So I think that you and me should stay as far from those as possible.

      michael.barns.1 - 2012-07-28 09:15

you're an idiot you know that, to have the ordacity to say that 9/11 or the london bombings didnt happen. I swear your IQ must be in the single digits, I pity you. You're typical thick idiological mentality that if it didnt happen to me then it didnt happen just shows your intellegence or lack thereof. Since you are black by you name, did the apartheid happen? I mean I didnt see it, didnt effect me? Did the Jews die in the concentration camps in WW2? I wasnt there.. Did man land on the moon? I wasnt there.. Did Columbus discover the new world? I wasnt there.. Did the Egyptians build the Pyramids? I wasnt there.. Are you starting to see how thick I would sound if I went around and said that because I wasnt there or wasnt affected by the outcomes or actions then it didnt happen???? You are most probably a fool that still votes for the ANC, SACP, IFP etc... yet they deliver and are never around, but thats ok for you, you believe in them. You couldnt give a hoot about the way the western allies die overseas protecting your freedom because im sure you think its just white magic, I hate to tell you this but there are thousands of black people dieing in Afghanistan and Iraq, someone of them even come from SA, why not go tell their parents that it didnt happen. You have a pathetic life with a useless brain, you are a waste of Gods gift. Ask yourself this, as by your profile photo of Jesus, what would he DO and SAY if he were standing right next to you today?

      ziyaad.adams - 2012-07-28 19:13

@michael barns - im very interested to find out why western lives are so much more valuable to someone like you than others? It should be sad whenever any human life is lost. Remember over a million Iraqi's are dead (over 300 times the amount of people that dies in 911) I thought Ndumiso raised a very valid point - you are equating Islam with terrorism out of Afghanistan and Iraq. The questions he has asked you are quite pertenant - in your experience with SA muslims, have they treated you unfairly or badly, or incited a hatred in you somehow because you sure seem to hate them a lot? If anyone's post seems ignorant its yours!

      imraan.chothia.7 - 2012-07-28 20:02

Michael Barns, if u dont agree with a comment a person makes, then there is no need to resort to arrogant abusive and insulting comments, or does the truth hurt?

      ndumiso.mavuso.5 - 2012-07-28 21:24

@ Michael. 1. Read well & think b4 u respond. Did I say 9/11 & London bombings did not happen? Read the last paragraph of my last post. They did happen! By Who? I don't know. Do you know that some of the alleged 9/11 hijackers are still alive? Go read. Do you know about the Truth Movement in the USA? Go read. You've made so many assumptions about me, I don't even know where to start: Did I say those things did not happen or did I say they will not influence my view of other people except my own experiences? - because the Holocaust took place, am I now supposed to hate Germans? Why should I take sides? is it gonna help me in any manner? - My race has nothing to do with what we're talking about. For yo info, not even Julius Malema and the entire ANC combined has succeded in making me habour any hatred for white people by playing the apartheid card when it suits them and they want to achieve their ambitions through me! You are not gonna be any more successful. You must be a sangoma! By my 2 postings, you have already discovered who I vote for; the level of my IQ and so many other things! That's dangerous mike! For yo info; western allies never do anything for anyone, they do things that serve their interest! Your arrogance and abusive comments don't make yo points any more valid! Remember this " What you say about somebody, says more about you than that person", it's even worse if u've never even met the person and you can draw so much from their names! Luv u Mike!

We should learn to respect each others religions. Instead of wasting time trying to sabotage the Holy house of Muslims , learn a bit about the religion first.Everyone seems to misinterpret Islam and no!! Googling Islam won't help, there are a lot of untrusted sites on the net ! Get a few books , learn about the religion before making any judgments and assumptions .I mean as sane citizens of South Africa we should be aware of what society tries to portray! It's small minuet acts like these that start of unnecessary feud.To the Muslims , as a Muslim it is best not to overreact as that is what anti-islamists want, be strong!! I myself have friends who are Christian , Jewish , Atheist as well as Satanic!! We all seem to understand each other and find that mutual respect! Believe what you want to believe but do not infringe nor insult others and their beliefs..
