Pretoria - Oscar Pistorius’s attorney Kenny Oldwadge says that the defence would oppose an application by media houses to broadcast his client’s murder trial.

"We are certainly opposing it," Oldwadge told the AP on Tuesday.

Media houses eNCA, MultiChoice and Eyewitness News are applying to the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to broadcast Pistorius’s murder trial.

The media houses also want permission to audio stream and take still photographs during the trial.
The National Prosecuting Authority on Tuesday said it would not oppose the application.

"We are not opposing the application," NPA spokesperson Nathi Mncube said.

"It's obviously up to the presiding judge whether to grant the order or to come to a different conclusion."

Although the NPA was not opposing the application it would put forward a number of conditions. Mncube would not say what these were.

Pistorius is accused of killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February last year. His trial is expected to be heard in the High Court in Pretoria from 3 to 20 March.
