Johannesburg - Oscar Pistorius's family is keeping mum following confirmation that the convicted Paralympian would be placed under correctional supervision in two months' time.

"The family is not planning to comment on any issues relating to the parole as reported in the media," family spokesperson Anneliese Burgess told News24 in an e-mail on Tuesday.

Pistorius will not be released on parole, but will be put under correctional supervision. The Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) confirmed on Monday that Pistorius would leave the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria on August 21 under correctional supervision.

On September 12 last year, Pistorius was acquitted of murder, but convicted of culpable homicide for shooting dead his model and law-graduate girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in the early hours of February 14 2013.

He fired four shots through the locked door of the toilet in his Pretoria home on Valentine's Day, apparently thinking she was an intruder.

On October 21, Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for killing Steenkamp, and for three years - suspended for five - for discharging a firearm in a restaurant.

There has been speculation over whether Pistorius will take up his training again once he is put under house arrest.

His coach Ampie Louw, however, refused to comment on Pistorius's training or whether he had been in contact with him.

"I made a decision in principle that I will never, never speak to the media again," he said.
