Oscar makes world headlines

See how the news of Oscar Pistorius allegedly shooting his girlfriend has made international headlines.

Pretoria - Bladerunner Oscar Pistorius walked out of Boschkop police station in Pretoria with a jacket over his head on Thursday after the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

He was bundled into a car that sped off.

The double amputee paralympian athlete, who uses carbon fibre prosthetic legs, sat between two people in the back seat of a white unmarked VW Polo.

A driver and passenger were in the front seat as the vehicle drove off, with photographers vying for a shot of the world famous athlete who had qualified to compete with able-bodied athletes.

Police opened a murder docket following the shooting at Pistorius' home at Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria in the early hours of the morning.

It was not immediately clear where he was going to, as the police convoy travelled through Mamelodi.

Police said a 26-year-old was expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Pistorius's lawyer Kenny Oldwage was earlier seen leaving the police station.

Listen to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale confirm how they were alerted about the shooting and arriving on the scene.
