Johannesburg - A four-seater airplane crash-landed on a beach south of Durban on Saturday, narrowly missing swimmers, paramedics said.

"A light aircraft was headed toward the city when they had a technical failure," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.

A couple were flying with their two children when the plane's propeller apparently broke off.

The plane crash-landed on the shore at Warner beach south of Durban, narrowly missing about 70 to 100 beach-goers.

Wicks said the man suffered lacerations to his head and ear. His family was uninjured. They were all taken to the Kingsway hospital.
