Poachers killed in Kruger shoot-out

2011-09-09 11:48

Mbombela - Two suspected poachers were shot dead and one was wounded in a shoot-out with the national defence force in the Kruger National Park, SA National Parks said on Friday.

The men were confronted by soldiers near Houtbos in the south of the park on Thursday afternoon, said spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli.

He said the wounded intruder was under police guard in hospital and expected to be charged soon.

A soldier was slightly injured in the tussle.

An AK-47 and a hunting rifle were confiscated.

"We are still investigating but are happy to say that a sweep of the area revealed no animal carcasses or injured animals."

  • PinkAndProud - 2011-09-09 11:54

Great stuff, but why put the wounded intruder in hospital? Rather feed him to the lions.

      Thandiwe83 - 2011-09-09 12:09

      Well done sandf

      Konsoomer - 2011-09-09 12:10

      or cut his horn off........

      Hunky_Dory - 2011-09-09 12:24

Tell me he is and I will finish the job off

      Shadoz - 2011-09-09 12:38

it really nakes little impact on shooting these low level poachers. We need the guys at the top sending these buggers to kill this amazing and endangered animal.

      Point Blank - 2011-09-09 13:37

@Shadoz, you wrong. By killing these poachers you will find they are more than likely wanted for other serious crimes like murder and rape.. When they not poaching animals they attacking humans.

      Oopkopdenker - 2011-09-09 13:37

The first part of your comment deserved a thumbs up. Great work yes. The second part of your comment deserved a thumbs down. Makes you no better than these criminals if you want to share their killing mentality.

      sardonicus - 2011-09-09 14:16

Yes indeed why put him hospital? But it is a rather sweet ending to this story! Go SANDF! I always said they ought to bring in the army in the fight against poaching.

      thozi - 2011-09-09 14:23

I shouldn't be celebrating at the death of two humans, but I am. I'm proud of you SANDF! Err.. how about taking out the 3rd one as well?

      KanaMay - 2011-09-09 15:53

We need to get information on who was planning to buy / export the goods before we let the criminals shoot each other.

      James Weather - 2011-09-09 16:30

At least those billions we spending on the national defence force has borne some fruit?

      Philip - 2011-12-07 10:01

Well said! the truth is... Anti poach do catch a fair amount of poachers, they don't make headlines because they don't capture them, the DO feed them to the lions, if you see what the poachers do to the animals and how the catch them, you would do the same. The only justice for these oxygen thieves is a bullet in the back of the head. the death penalty should be reinstated and poaching should be an offence punishable by death. i have seen the destruction these cowards cause, I have hunted them as they hunt the animals, I have been on 12 hour walks looking for snares for all sorts of animals. It isn't pleasant out there, a clear message needs to be sent and more finance needs to be invested to stop it. turn THEM into an endangered species!

  • - 2011-09-09 11:55

    Good riddance...

  • LP - 2011-09-09 11:56

      Felix - 2011-09-09 12:43

      They got a livey.

  • IC1 - 2011-09-09 11:57

Bloody well done chaps, kill those muthas! Even the guy in custody, dont waiste money on medical assistance, take him for a ride in a helicopter and boot his ass out in flight!

      Andrew Ampers Taylor - 2011-09-09 12:23

You need three in the helicopter. Ask one who the big boss is, as soon as he hesitates, throw him out, then ask the second who won't tell you as there is still another there to listen, so throw him out. The third will tell you everything you want to know.

      ChumScrubber - 2011-09-09 12:30

Nice emotional idea, but its better off having one alive - maybe lead to the bigger boys.

      Andrew Ampers Taylor - 2011-09-09 12:43

      @ChumScrubber - read it again :-)

      pop101 - 2011-09-09 12:47

Chopper fuel to expensive, cut of fingers one by one till he talks.

      IC1 - 2011-09-09 12:59

@Andrew, just like the old days huh? LOL

      DABOSS247365 - 2011-09-09 14:10

Thats rather expensive & will have too much reminders of the old south africa. rather give them a massive energy booster, & immensly strong sensory booster, & start drilling out their teeth & under their finder nails. Add a skin irritant & they will talk.. its just a matter of time. Once done, wet them, throw them in a freezer with a fan, & let them loose in the morning,. they will die before they get too far, but will at least be off your property.

      Succubus - 2011-09-13 12:10

I'm enjoying the ideas coming out of this thread. Keep the imagination flowing people!! :) We need to rid the earth of primitive savagery. What better way to combat savagery, than with even more creative and imaginative savagery, ...I like it! :)

Fantastic news. Now carry on the same way - just don't wound - shoot to kill just like the poachers do. Cancer sores on the face of the plant is what I call them!

  • Flee - 2011-09-09 12:07

Whoop Whoop brilliant... But I would have tied the wounded one to a tree and left him for the lions... Great Job, and hope the injured soldier has a full and fast recovery...

Some good news to start the weekend. Well done to all involved.

  • Jim - 2011-09-09 12:16

Thats what we need. Put the army out on patrols, and lets get all these poachers.Best news for a long time on this subject.

  • Andre Scholtz - 2011-09-09 12:18

Well done SANDF! Now let the wounded one slowly succumb to his wounds. Then let his village know what his fate was. Maybe they will tolerate criminals in their midst less next time. He is a burden to society and our natural heritage.

  • JohnieFish - 2011-09-09 12:22

I thought the rules of hunting stipulates that a wounded "animal" should be hunted down and shot again. As these poachers are nothing but savage animals, the same rule should apply. (PS. On second thought, the animals are one step above the poachers, sorry for the bad comparison ?!?)

  • - 2011-09-09 12:22

    Well done great Job

  • Et.1 - 2011-09-09 12:22

  • pop101 - 2011-09-09 12:23

That sounds like a nice job. Walking patrollie amongst animals and nature + you get to shoot at poachers. Wonder how much they pay nowadays. Well done SANDF.

  • Timothy Johnston - 2011-09-09 12:33

It's sad that death is celebrated.

      Flee - 2011-09-09 15:12

And yet it is fine when they celebrate the death of a majestic animal by lining their pockets... SAD?? Your Sad!!

  • Wes - 2011-09-09 12:37

How many Rhinos so far to how many poachers. Hope the dead poachers score increases rapidly

  • betha - 2011-09-09 12:40

  • BumpLady - 2011-09-09 12:41

    Good job!!!

  • chirpee24 - 2011-09-09 12:43

poor poachers i hope they're ok?

      thozi - 2011-09-09 14:28

      Yeah, roasting in hell!

  • pberchu - 2011-09-09 12:45

Well done. While it may seem morbid that death is celebrated. It seems like the only justice is this case. Knowing our justice system, these poachers while get bail, waste more of our money in court cases, htne get off free...just to go do it all over again... A poacher should be poached...thats fitting to his deed.

  • Vuzi - 2011-09-09 12:46

Excellent SANDF ! You make us proud.

  • K - 2011-09-09 12:46

  • MissGremlinSays - 2011-09-09 12:47

  • nicci.eaglestone - 2011-09-09 12:47

Well done!! now get the info you need and put the injured one back in the wild in close proximity to the nearest lion pride... and make sure he's hands are tied... and let nature take it's course...

  • Ingie - 2011-09-09 12:50
