Cape Town - Police have identified one of the six women whose murdered bodies were found in shallow graves near Century City station, a report said on Tuesday.

The woman, named Nomathemba, was a cleaner at Century City and had recently graduated, reported the Cape Times.

She is survived by two children.

The newspaper says her family, from Khayelitsha, said police had requested they not contact the media.

All six victims were found in shallow graves. Most had been bound, although a paramedic who was on the scene when a body was found in October told the Cape Argus he doesn’t remember the victim being tied up.

Police have set up a special task team to investigate the murders while the family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit was also involved, said the Cape Times, because all the women had been raped.

All the victims are said to be between ages of 20 and 32 and are black women.

Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has urged women to be vigilant and cautious during the holiday season, Eyewitness News reported on Sunday.

He advised members of the public to let their loved ones know their whereabouts.

Meanwhile, City of Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille said a R50 000 reward was being offered to anyone who could assist police in arresting those behind the murders, Sapa stated.
