Police extortion case on hold
Johannesburg - Four police officers accused of extorting money from a Ghanaian man appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court on Tuesday, police said.
The case was postponed to April 28, said Colonel Vishnu Naidoo.
Sergeant Tiisetzo Kekwe, 34, and Constables Khulani Lalulekhe, 29, Onkaetse Loedeo, 37, and William Mahoro, 32, were arrested in January.
Police stopped the foreigner at arrivals at the OR Tambo International Airport and asked him to produce an invitation to South Africa.
He showed them his passport and visa and said he did not need a letter of invitation.
The police then allegedly demanded $100 (about R804) and threatened him with deportation. He said he had $50 (about R402).
The officers allegedly ordered him to convert it into rands and hand it to them.
