Durban - Paramedics and police were forced to break into parked car to free two toddlers in Pietermaritzburg on Friday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the two boys, aged 2 and 4, respectively, had been left in the car and were spotted by a security guard.

“Paramedics were alerted to the scene by mall security, and on their arrival, paramedics found the two young boys locked in a light motor vehicle with the windows barely ajar.

“Paramedics were instructed by SAPS on the scene to break one of the windows to gain access to both boys. Once the window was broken and doors opened, paramedics retrieved the young patients and immediately began their assessment,” he said.

“Both young boys were found to have suffered mild heat exhaustion and were treated on the scene.

It is unknown how long both boys were locked inside the vehicle, but local authorities and Child Protection Services were on scene for further investigations, he added.
