Durban - A man was critically injured and four others sustained serious injuries when a light motor vehicle slammed into a police minibus on Friday night, Durban paramedics said.

"It is believed a police minibus had been travelling through the intersection of Stanger and Ordnance roads in the centre of Durban when another vehicle proceeded through the red traffic light," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.

"After colliding both vehicles spun out of control and came to rest in the roadway."

The driver of the minibus was uninjured. The four wounded from the light motor vehicle were treated and stabilised at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for further care, Wicks said.
